Well-Placed ✩ Psalm 20

As I attempted to quiet my mind for some sleep last night, I came across a mini-commentary on the side of my Bible. For once I decided not to skip it and I'm grateful I didn't. Its focus: that our trust is well-placed. It pairs with Psalm 20. It’s an example of how confident David was when trusting God. Take a breath and I encourage you to read it. Don’t worry - it’s right here for you.

1 May the Lord answer you when you are in distress; may the name of the God of Jacob protect you.
2 May he send you help from the sanctuary and grant you support from Zion.
3  May he remember all your sacrifices and accept your burnt offerings.
4  May he give you the desire of your heart and make all your plans
 succeed.
5 May we shout for joy over your victory and lift up our
banners in the name of our God. May the Lord grant all your requests.
6 Now this I know: The Lord gives victory to his anointed. He answers him from his heavenly sanctuary with the victorious power of his right hand.
7 Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our
God.
8 They are brought to their knees and fall, but we rise up and stand firm.
9 Lord, give victory to the king! Answer us when we call!

Maybe you need to read it again. No worries, I did. It’s straightforward. However, I read it so passively last night. Then I woke up and read it again this morning. Realizing what Psalm 20 really promises, I got so smiley I had to write about it. These words, better yet, truths, make me leap because I am putting my trust in the right thing. Our trust is exactly where it needs to be, if we put it in Jesus.

You have every reason to worry, stress, and become anxious. How can we not with this world? But what if trust was our first response? The world feeds and preys on our worry. But the Word fuels our trust. Psalm 20 promises us these things! God desires to bring us joy, help, victory, answers, you name it. Verse 4 even says God wants to fulfill our desires and make our plans succeed. A.k.a. God is on team #you, big time.

I know this isn’t easy. Trusting God is hard. It’s difficult to have full trust and belief in something that doesn’t always make sense or something we can’t see. But here’s what I can attest to:

  • God has never lost sight of me.
  • He has never turned away, even if I have.
  • He brings grace, not guilt.
  • Every time I bring my trust, He does something with it.
Rest in the fact that your trust is well-placed.

*Shoutout to The Jesus Bible, it has truly become one of my favorite versions to read on the regular. It has incredible commentaries from people like Louie Giglio and John Piper. I love that thing. It may very well weigh five pounds. It's not practical for traveling at all. Yet it still ends up in my suitcases. But just like Justin and Ed, I don't care.
